Tips from The American Burn Association
• Supervise children around hot objects at all times.
• Stand at least 3 feet away from hot outdoor objects. Keep area clear of trip hazards. Limit alcohol consumption.
• Protect your feet from hot objects by wearing shoes when walking on hot pavement or sand. Keep pets off hot pavement too.
• Turn heating pads and blankets off before sleep.
• Have hot pads available whenever cooking. Long oven mitts are best when needing to reach in or over hot surfaces, such in an oven or over a grill. Assume all pots and pans are hot.
• Remember to treat items coming from the microwave as you would items from the oven. Limit microwave use by children.
• Unplug tools such as curling irons when not in use, and always treat as if they are still hot. Keep out of reach of children

Child Burn Prevention Tips
Apply cold running water for 10-15 minutes to cool a burn and call 9-1-1 for serious burns.
Again supervision is key, always watch children in the kitchen and dining areas.
The kitchen is one of the most hazardous places for a child. Create a “No Child Zone” while preparing and serving hot foods and beverages.
While cooking on the stove, don’t carry or hold a child. Better, place the child in a high chair or other safe area while cooking.
Children love to reach, remember to use the back burner of your stove and turn pot handles away from its edge to prevent hot food or liquid spills.
Items from the microwave are just as hot as cooked on the stove. Test before giving to children.
Unplug hot irons (clothing and curling irons). Keep them out of reach of children.
Watch little ones' clothing around flames or heating elements. Keep them away from candles and blow them out when not in the room.
To prevent accidental scalding, set your water heater to 120 degrees Fahrenheit or the manufacturer’s recommended setting.
For bath time, turn on cold water first then mix in warmer water to safe temperature.
Make a habit of placing matches, gasoline, and lighters in a safe place, preferably in a high, locked cabinet, out of children’s reach and avoid novelty lighters as they may look like toys in a child’s eyes.
Before putting a child into a car seat, touch the seat to see if it is hot. Hot seat-belt straps or buckles can cause second-degree burns on small children. Cover the car seat with a towel when you park in the sun.

January 19, 2023 CPSC; Meguiar’s recalled its Heavy Duty Headlight Sealant because
it contains low-viscosity hydrocarbons and fails to meet federal child
resistant packaging requirements, posing a risk of poisoning if the contents
are swallowed by young children. Units: 140,000.
January 12, 2023 CPSC; MI Windows and Doors recalled its 1620 vinyl single-hung
impact windows with window opening control devices because the tilt latch can
cause the window opening control devices to malfunction, posing fall and
serious injury hazards. Units: About 25,000.
January 12, 2023 CPSC; LG Electronics recalled its LG 86-inch smart televisions and
stands because the TV can become unstable while on the assembled stand, posing
serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in injuries or death to
children and others. Units: About 52,000 (an additional ~1,800 in Canada and
~2,900 in Mexico).
January 12, 2023 CPSC; BISSELL recalled its Cordless Multi-Surface Wet Dry Vacuums
models 2551, 2551W, and 25519 because the circuit board inside the vacuum’s
battery pack can overheat and smoke, posing a fire hazard. Units: 61,000
(an additional ~4,300 in Canada).
January 9, 2023 CPSC; Kids2 reannounced its recall of all models of its Rocking
Sleepers. Since the original recall in 2019, infant fatalities have occurred as infants rolled from their back to their
stomach or side while unrestrained or under other circumstances. Units:
About 694,000.

January 5, 2023 CPSC; Polaris recalled its Model Year 2020-2023 Sportsman 1000 S
and Scrambler 1000 S All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) because electrostatic
discharge outside the fuel tank can ignite fuel spills while refueling, posing
a fire hazard. Units: About 3,800 (an additional ~780 in Canada).
January 5, 2023 CPSC; Quality Bicycle Products recalled its Bicycle handlebars and
bicycles because the handlebars can crack where the break/shift levers are
installed and cause a crash, posing an injury hazard. Units: About 8,740 (an
additional ~350 in Canada).
January 5, 2023 CPSC; P.J. Salvage recalled its children’s pajamas because they
fail to meet the federal flammability standards for children’s sleepwear,
posing a risk of burn injuries to children. Units: About 2,650.
December 29, 2022 NHTSA; JD E-Commerce America Limited (Joybuy Express) recalled all Marainbow Portable Infant Safe Seat and materially similar child seats because the installation labels display incorrect instructions and the child seat’s design prohibits it from being installed properly.
December 29, 2022 CPSC; Surf9 recalled its Body Glove Tandem and ULI Inflatable Paddle Boards because the glue on the inflatable boards can separate at the seams and the paddle boards can deflate unexpectedly, posing a drowning hazard. Units: About 13,300 (an additional ~7,000 sold in Canada).
December 29, 2022 CPSC; ZLINE recalled its 30-inch and 36-inch RG gas ranges because the oven of the gas ranges can emit dangerous levels of carbon monoxide while in use, posing a serious risk of injury or death from carbon monoxide poisoning. Units: About 28,000.
December 23, 2022 FDA; GFA Production (Xiamen) Co., Ltd. recalled one lot of its Easy Care first aid After Burn Cream single use packets because FDA analysis found the product to be contaminated with Bacillus licheniformis and Bacillus sonorensis. Use of the contaminated cream could result infectious complications like skin infections for non-immunocompromised consumers and sever or life-threatening adverse events like sepsis for the immunocompromised.
December 22, 2022 CPSC; Nova Medical Products recalled its Home Bed Rails because when the bedrail is attached, users can become entrapped within the bed rail or between the bed rail and the side of the mattress, posing a serious entrapment hazard and risk of death by asphyxiation. Units: About 20,000.
December 22, 2022 CPSC; Samsung recalled its Top-Load Washing Machines because the machines can short-circuit and overheat, posing a fire hazard. Units: About 663,500.
December 22, 2022 CPSC; Target recalled its Children’s Pillowfort Weighted Blankets because a young child can become entrapped by unzipping and entering the blanket, posing a risk of asphyxiation. Units: About 204,000.
December 22, 2022 CPSC; Pacific Cycle recalled its Pacific Igniter and Pacific Bubble Pop 20” kids’ bicycles because the handlebar can become loose during use, posing a fall hazard. Units: About 147,000.
December 15, 2022 CPSC; Samnyte Tattoo Numbing Creams recalled its numbing creams sold on Amazon because the product contains lidocaine and the packaging is not child resistant, posing a risk of poisoning to young children if they ingest it. Units: About 9,000.
December 15, 2022 CPSC; Rosso Motors recalled its Rosso Motors eQuad X and eQuad Q Youth All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) because they do not meet mandatory federal safety standards. The youth ATVs exceed the maximum speed limitations for vehicles intended for children ages 6 and older, the mechanical suspension fails to comply with the safety standard, and it was imported and distributed without a CPSC-approved ATV Action Plan. These issues put children using the ATVs at risk for high-speed crash, serious injury, or death. Units: About 2,800.
December 15, 2022 CPSC; Gabby recalled its D-Ring Fritz Mirrors because the ring and wire hanging mechanism can fail causing the mirror to detach and fall from the wall, posing injury and laceration hazards. Units: About 930.
December 15, 2022 CPSC; Sundance Spas recalled Jacuzzi® Hot Tubs and Sundance® Spas because the temperature sensor can relay incorrect water temperature and cause the water to be hotter than the set temperature, posing injury (heatstroke) and thermal burn hazards. Units: About 23,700 (an additional ~5,400 in Canada and ~40 in Mexico).
December 15, 2022 CPSC; ESS Universal USA recalled its waterproof foam mattresses because they fail to meet the mandatory federal flammability standard for mattresses, posing a fire hazard. Units: About 1,800.
December 15, 2022 CPSC; Advantage Sales & Marketing recalled its Good Matters Three-Wick Candles because the candles can burn at higher than usual temperatures causing the jars to break, posing fire and laceration injury hazards. Units: About 30,100.
December 15, 2022 CPSC; Crate and Barrel recalled its Thornhill Dark Brown and Natural Baby Cribs because the mattress support pins can become loose or not fit properly causing the mattress to fall, posing a fall hazard. Units: About 280 (an additional ~5 in Canada).
