Keep Halloween costumes safe

Keep Halloween costumes safe tonight with these five safety tips from @azchildproofers.
1. Fire Resistant
2. Inspect
3. Bright
4. Short
5. No Mask.
1. Fire resistant fabric still burns but will burn out more quickly...Also avoid itchy and scratchy fabrics that can irritate baby's tender skin. Avoid candles and fires.
2. Inspect for choking and strangulation hazards on costumes on children that are under 3 and on older children's costumes if you have a toddler in the house too.
3. Falls are the leading cause of unintentional injury...keeping costumes short will help to avoid tripping on the costume
4. Reflective tape will help drivers see your child AND you when you are out on the streets. Children are twice as likely to be hit by a car on Halloween night that any other night.
5. Masks can block peripheral vision for walkers....Masks can be a suffocation hazard for infants. Use non toxic face paint instead
Have a fun and safe time dressing up!

appliance lock on your dishwasher

480-634-7366
info@azchildproofers.com
When thinking about baby proofing your home, you may not think of the dishwasher as a potential hazard at first. In reality, it can be very hazardous. It holds sharp knives and forks, as well as glass, and possibly toxic dishwashing fluid. If your child got a hold of these things they could hurt themselves.
Arizona Childproofers always suggests best practices and that means an appliance lock on your dishwasher.

Crib safety

While a mattress and a fitted sheet are important components of a safe sleep environment for infants, there are other factors to consider as well. Here are some additional considerations for safe sleep in a crib:

1. Choose a firm, flat mattress: The mattress should fit snugly in the crib and should be firm and flat to provide a safe sleeping surface for the baby. Soft mattresses or bedding, such as pillows or stuffed animals, can increase the risk of suffocation or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

2. Use a fitted sheet: The fitted sheet should fit snugly on the mattress to prevent it from coming loose during sleep and potentially covering the baby's face.

3. Avoid crib bumpers: Crib bumpers are not recommended as they pose a suffocation risk and can also be a potential strangulation hazard.

4. Keep the crib bare: To reduce the risk of suffocation or SIDS, the crib should be free from any loose or soft bedding, including blankets, quilts, pillows, and stuffed animals.

5. Ensure proper positioning: Infants should be placed on their backs to sleep to reduce the risk of SIDS.

By following these guidelines, you can create a safe sleep environment for your baby in a crib.

a baby-free space

Sometimes you just need a baby-free space. An easy way to accomplish this is to gate the area off. That way, you can still easily access the area, but not worry about baby getting hurt in there. Arizona Childproofers thinks baby gates are pretty great!

Playmats

 480-634-7366

info@azchildproofers.com

Playmats are soft, cushioned mats typically designed for babies and young children to play on. They serve as a comfortable and safe surface for babies to engage in various activities, such as tummy time, crawling, rolling, and playing with toys. Playmats come in various styles, sizes, and materials, catering to different developmental stages and preferences.

Here are some common features and considerations associated with playmats: Material: Playmats are typically made from soft and padded materials like foam, fabric, or rubber. These materials provide a comfortable and safe surface for babies to play on. Design: Playmats often feature colorful and engaging designs, such as animals, letters, numbers, or vibrant patterns which can contribute to a baby's visual and cognitive development. Size: Playmats come in different sizes to fit various spaces and needs. Some are small and portable, while others cover a larger area. The size you choose depends on the available space and how you plan to use the playmat. Portability: Some playmats are designed to be foldable or roll up for easy storage and transportation. This makes them convenient for use at home or when traveling. Safety: Look for playmats that meet safety standards and are free from harmful chemicals. Many playmats are BPA-free and have been tested for safety.
Texture: Some playmats have textures or features like crinkly materials, tags, or attached toys to provide sensory stimulation for babies. Cleaning: Consider how easy the playmat is to clean. Many playmats come with removable, machine-washable covers, making them simple to maintain. Age Appropriateness: Some playmats are designed for specific age ranges, with features and activities suitable for different developmental stages. For example, a playmat for infants may have overhead hanging toys, while a playmat for older babies might have interactive elements like mirrors and musical features. Extras: Some playmats come with additional accessories like hanging toys, mirrors, or arches that can entertain and engage your baby during playtime.
Overall, playmats provide a safe and comfortable environment for babies to explore and play, helping with their physical and cognitive development. When choosing a playmat, consider your baby's age, space available, and personal preferences to find the one that best suits your needs.

It's FALL YA'LL!

October can be an exciting time for children and adults alike!  The weather is cooling down, spooky decorations are being put up, and kids are deciding on their costumes and dreaming of sugar! This month's blog is providing some trick-or-treating tips for a fun night to remember. We are also raising awareness about SIDS and how to reduce the risk. We hope this information helps you and keeps your little pumpkins safe.

According to Safe to Sleep

  • SIDS is a sudden and silent medical disorder that can happen to an infant who seems healthy.
  • SIDS is sometimes called "crib death" or "cot death" because it is associated with the time when the baby is sleeping. Cribs themselves don't cause SIDS, but the baby's sleep environment can influence sleep-related causes of death.
  • SIDS is the leading cause of death among babies between 1 month and 1 year of age.
  • About 1,360 babies died of SIDS in 2017, the last year for which such statistics are available.
  • Most SIDS deaths happen in babies between 1 month and 4 months of age, and the majority (90%) of SIDS deaths happen before a baby reaches 6 months of age. However, SIDS deaths can happen anytime during a baby's first year.

Ways to Help Protect your Baby from SIDS

  1. Ensure the crib is properly assembled.
  2. Always place baby on their back to sleep.
  3. Remove everything from the crib other than the mattress and fitted sheets (i.e. stuffed animals, pillows, blankets and bumpers.)
  4. Use a firm mattress.
  5. Do not overdress your baby when they sleep.
  6. Use a sleep sack, not sheets.
  7. Baby sharing parents room for at least the first 6 months can reduce the risk of SIDS.
  8. Baby should not sleep with other infants in the crib or in a bed/on a couch with adults.
  9. Keep a pollutant/ smoke-free room.
  10. Breastfeeding or using expressed milk for the first 6 months can reduce the risk of SIDS.
  11. Limit baby's exposure to persons who have colds or other respiratory infections.
